Basic Info.

Exenatide is a 39 amino acid peptide derived from the salivary gland of the Gila monster. It is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used to treat type 2 diabetes. Exenatide mimics the actions of GLP-1, a natural hormone that regulates insulin secretion and glucagon, improving glycemic control. It can be administered subcutaneously either twice daily (Byetta) or once weekly (Bydureon BCise).
